Estimated payments are generally due in April, June, September, and January.

How this is figured. Uses 2026 tax year amounts: self-employment tax of 15.3% on 92.35% of net profit (Social Security portion capped at $184,500), half of that tax deducted, the 2026 standard deduction, an optional 20% QBI deduction, and 2026 federal brackets.

What it leaves out. State and local taxes, tax credits, additional Medicare tax, other deductions such as retirement contributions or health insurance, and new deductions for tips or overtime. W-2 wages that already used part of the Social Security cap are not accounted for. QBI limits at higher incomes are not applied.

This calculator gives a rough estimate for planning only. It is not tax advice and not a tax return. Your actual tax can be higher or lower.
